Retail giant Amazon recently listed a job ad for Digital Currency and Product Leader Blockchain. Shortly thereafter, a company spokesman suggested that the world's largest online retailer was considering whether to allow payments with cryptocurrencies.

"We are inspired by the innovation that is happening in the cryptocurrency space and are exploring what this could look like at Amazon," the statement said. "We believe the future will be built on new technologies that enable modern, fast and cheap payments, and we look forward to bringing that future to Amazon customers as quickly as possible."

The open job opening indicates that the company is looking to "gain leadership buy-in and investment for new capabilities" and develop a "launch strategy." All of this suggests that the company is seriously considering what cryptos can offer.

Earlier this month, Amazon Web Services announced a head of product for its Amazon Managed Blockchain. Now Amazon's FinTech Advertising team is also looking for a senior software engineer.

There's not much to say about all this news coming from the world's biggest online retailer, but if all this could be summed up in one sentence, Elon Musk would probably have said it better. In retrospect, it was inevitable.
