Argentine election results disappoint markets

English Nov 1, 2019

In a dramatic comeback, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who chaired the country from 2007 to 2015, was voted back to the post of vice president. The victory ends Macri's pro-market economic policies.

Fernández, a moderate Peronist who pledged to respect the IMF $ 57 billion loan, obtained 47.79% of the vote, compared with Macri's 40.71%. The new president also promises to improve wages and benefits for workers and pensioners.
