Evo Morales resigned the presidency of Bolivia on Sunday. Political tension in the country grew wildly after the October 20 election over suspected electoral fraud.
The official result showed Morales victory, with about 47% of the votes and a margin of more than ten percentage points compared to second, resulting in reelection in the first round. However, the result was contested by the opposition. At the time, Morales claimed that his government was the victim of a coup. Shortly thereafter, the OAS audited and confirmed that the October 20 elections had been rigged.
