According to Cointelegraph, Catalonia's government decided to launch a projetct called by IdentiCAT, which is a decentralized identity system for its citizens.

The IdentiCAT won't be controlled by the government, Catalonians will be on control of their own data, chooshing what data they are willing to share with the government, or with third parties. The system will be available both to the local residents and also to the Catalonians living abroad.

The goal is to create a more private way to access digital services, develop the economy and empower the population.
