China continues to refine its blockchain-based structure. The country recently introduced an independently developed blockchain-based identification system for cities as part of its smart city infrastructure. The system will assign a unique global digital ID to Chinese smart cities to improve connectivity and data sharing between them.

China is highly focused on developing smart cities in order to solve the more complicated challenges that arise with its increasingly urbanized population. Smart cities employ and integrate a variety of technologies to make municipal operations more efficient, including autonomous cars, renewable energy, energy-efficient buildings and communication systems.
