The Federal Reserve (central bank of the United States) on Tuesday made an extraordinary cut, before the next meeting, of 0.5 percentage point in the country's interest rates, in response to the possible impacts of the coronavirus on the economy.

With the reduction, US interest rates moved to the range of 1% to 1.25%. The US Central Bank had not made an emergency cut since 2008, when the world was suffering from the effects of the international financial crisis.
