Gucci, the renowned luxury clothing and accessories store, will begin accepting cryptocurrencies at some of its US locations later this month, with plans to roll out the program in other North American stores later.
In-store payments will be avaiable using QR codes sent by Gucci via email to customers, which they can use to pay directly from their favorite crypto wallets.
The first places to accept cryptocurrencies are Wooster Street in New York, Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, Miami Design District, Phipps Plaza in Atlanta and The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas.
It's not the first time that Gucci has ventured into Web3. Offering the ability to pay with crypto in the store is just the company's latest move. Earlier this year, the brand debuted in the metaverse by purchasing virtual land on the decentralized blockchain The Sandbox, where it is building a virtual "Gucci Vault" for its own-brand NFTs.
To prepare for this new venture, the company stated that it will provide cryptocurrency and NFT education and training for its staff ahead of the program launch.
